Tired of waiting on the outcome of the election?

Here is something else to fret over ... the latest report from the White House on the state of the pandemic in Georgia

And ... it's pretty bleak.

1/n
It starts with a pretty major asterisk.

"Georgia’s testing rates have significantly declined, making it difficult to interpret the current state of its epidemic."

Testing has been down or falling for weeks in Georgia, this is the first mention of it skewing numbers.

2/n
Why does the WH say it's too low? Test positivity is spiking while new cases have remained relatively stable, which the task force says suggests undertesting.

Looking at the grid, testing is down 11% from last week.

3/n
That gets to the recommendations, which is where things get pretty stark.

"There is a continued increase in cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities nationally, spreading southward from the coldest climates as the population moves indoors and cases increase exponentially."

4/n
"New hospital admissions in Georgia remain elevated at a high plateau, suggesting the foci of ongoing community spread are
continuing," it reads.

What are those foci?

Social gatherings with family and friends that have led to "unrelenting and significant community spread."

5/n
For weeks, the WH has warned of the risk of small gatherings.

@GovKemp has declined to lower the state's gathering ban sizes to anything lower than 50, but my read is this isn't really the kind of gathering the WH is talking about.

6/n
My read?

Even small, gatherings can lead to spread. Think: a few families together for dinner; friends gathering for drinks.

"People must remember that seemingly uninfected family members and friends may be infected but asymptomatic," the report reads.

7/n
It's going to be hard few months, not only because we're entering the holiday season, but even the other smaller ways we try to see friends and family to celebrate after this very very hard year are not without risk.

8/n
That's why the report recommends "limiting all private social gatherings to the immediate household."
