Some thoughts on election politics:
- Texas once again disappoints; however, the DNC needs to understand that TX is more than Harris County and make inroads into rural TX. Example, if you're talking wind energy, you need to visit Texas Tech. Beto went to every county.

-Veterans don't necessarily make good candidates in competitive races. I'm still not sure what MJ Hegar ever did besides get shot. Military service can't be the only feature in non "safe" races like Crenshaw's heavily gerrymandered district.
2/?
- Why did South Texas under-perform for Biden? He didn't go there personally. And the idea of Law and Order has appeal on an often lawless border. Defund the Police probably will turn out to be a big self-own. Reform them, but not all cops are bad & a necessary function
3/?
- Gun "control" is just bad politics at this point. I own an AR-15 and a bunch of high cap magazines. I want gun safety and guns kept out of the hands of criminal and crazies. How we get there is better politics than bans/confiscations. Beto a bad example here.
4/?
- Texas recruited an excessively weak crop of Dem candidates this year. Davis/Oliver/Hager just weren't very good. This matters for the mid-terms. Keep these weak candidates away from the ballot.
5/?
- I'm not Hispanic, but being a South Texan, I can observe that there is a big difference between Latino voters in Florida and South Texas and New York. DNC needs to learn how to parse this better and recruit candidates appropriately.
6/?
- TX politics especially for nat'l offices is the politics of abandonment. Dems are disengaged w/ rural TX. Your oil/meat/cotton/wind energy come from somewhere. Hate has filled the vacuum. Smart candidates w/ an eye towards 2024 would do well to note this.
7/?
-The Clinton coalition is frayed. DNC needs to make inroads w/ "white/non-college educated voters". Pocketbook vs Portfolio. Anyone ever bother to ask how much debt people were carrying to live normal lives?
8/?
-Positivity/wellness language don't have a place in politics--they go low, we go high? How about the Chicago rule? They send one of yours to the hospital, you send one of their to the morgue. Negative ads work and they would have work this cycle. Lincoln Project anyone?
9/?
-Negative ads? Hunter Biden was an exploitable liability but have you met the Trump kids? Trump debt? Kavenaugh mystery debt?
10/?
-Back to veteran candidates. We had a wicked smart, wholesome, mid-western, religious veteran candidate who can go into the Fox News wolfs den and come back w/ scalps. Slayer Pete! Yet I recall the viral "he's a lying mofo" essay. Dumb politics.
11/?
-what's next? Long, dark, deadly winter w/ COVID. Maybe some spasms of violence. And a long road ahead to roll out a vaccine and get the country back to "normal" in the Spring/Summer. Oh and Hurricane ETA is coming...
