There is no consensus for statehood in Puerto Rico. Last night's vote status vote did not change that.

For people on island or in the US to pretend there is a mandate for Statehood?

Is an ignorant / irresponsible distraction from the day to day problems Puerto Rico faces.
The statehood campaign in Puerto Rico ran on fear & disinformation. Telling PR if they voted " no " they would lose the federal aid they currently received.

But that wasn't on the ballot.

This loud & well funded lie was repeated up through the last day of the election
In the lowest general election turn out in modern Puerto Rican history (just over 50%)

It's looking like just over 50% of that support statehood.

So around 25% of eligible voters supported statehood last night.

.
Statehood support in Puerto Rico rose from 2017 to 2020.

In 2017, around 508k voted YES (but only 23% of eligible voters participated in the non-election time plebiscite)

2020? Just over 592k voted YES
(Just around 25% of eligible voters)
To claim somewhere around 25% of Puerto Rico's eligible voters saying "YES" to Statehood is a " mandate " ?

Means you're really bad with #data #math?

Ignorant of Puerto Rican politics?

Or really really dishonest.
Now Puerto Rican statehooders are claiming a majority of eligible voters would have chosen statehood

iF ONLY more voters had been purged from the polls?
