I have been holding my tongue on some shit with the @NCDemParty for a while now, and I’m done with that. All the votes have been cast. It’s time for y’all to clean house. #ncpol
I’m sorry that our chair appears to be behind in his race for Insurance Commissioner. He was the best candidate; I supported his candidacy. I hope the remaining ballots change the current result. #ncpol
I know that between his wife’s illness and death, raising his children, and chairing the state party, and running for office, he has been engaged in some superhuman feats of late, and I appreciate all of those efforts. #ncpol
And he has done all those things part-time, because we don’t have a full-time chair. All of that has to change. #ncpol
What has become clear to me, in the short time I’ve been involved in party politics, is that either he was unable to delegate, or that permanent staff was unable to take initiative to do BASIC things. #ncpol
THERE ARE NO TRAINING MATERIALS, CHECKLISTS, OR NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL PARTY FOLKS. #ncpol
I cannot even begin to explain what a massive failure this is. We have a website with a plan of organization, and NOTHING ELSE. #ncpol
There is no shared process local parties can follow to develop local platforms. This is especially true in rural N.C. Durham County has a great process, but the State Party has done *nothing* to even help them set up a Google Drive folder to share that process. #ncpol
Just so y’all understand what a massive failure this is: the folks in NC who would most benefit from a unified vision of how to use the political process to better the material conditions of their communities lack access to those resources. #ncpol
And the @NCDemParty doesn’t think that’s a problem. #ncpol
We need a state chair who is strong enough to keep the DSCC from intervening in our primary. We had a candidate who was the real deal, and because of that intervention, we have likely lost a race that polls showed that candidate was ALWAYS leading. #ncpol
And that milquetoast statement after she called folks out for their lack of support when she was sexually harassed? I don’t think so. Not after folks let the DSCC intervene because they were scared of a Black woman from ENC. #ncpol
@NCDemParty Conventions are all procedure, with no opportunity to learn from our counterparts. If that’s how it’s going to be, then we need to organize conferences, with workshops that BUILD CAPACITY across the state. #ncpol
This election, we had trouble getting BASIC shit like yard signs. Because of rules for PACs, who had yard signs, we had to sign up as volunteers with them to get the resources we needed. #ncpol
And the ENTIRE reason some of these PACs exist, and have to work outside the Dem Party, is that the @NCDemParty is BROKEN. #ncpol
So, at the local level, we’re following the rules that say we can’t intervene in primaries and can’t get YARD SIGNS, while the @NCDemParty is allowing the DSCC to intervene in a primary and folks are starting PACs to work around them. #ncpol
We appear to have lost EVERY Council of State race but the Governor’s, we have failed to make significant gains in the General Assembly, and it appears we are now in for ten more years of GOP gerrymandering. #ncpol
Enough. Clean house. If you need the money for a full-time chair, counties will chip in. We all know who can afford to pay more. Clean house, @NCDemParty. #ncpol
In case this is not clear enough, I am, in fact, calling on @WayneGoodwinNC to resign as chair of the @NCDemParty. #ncpol
And I am calling on remaining @NCDemParty leadership to consider doing the same if they are unable to reorganize. North Carolinians deserve better. #ncpol
