So, #NewZealand. Not to point fingers, but we may actually be one of the last sane, safe places in the world right now. Which means we need to lift our game: there's plenty of inequality at home to tackle. Let's be a better example to those poor bastards who don't live here.
We've got racism and poverty and environmental problems here, for all the green, happy reputation that we have. Our mental health services need serious work. Our family violence rate is a shocker. Let us speak, seriously, about the state of our rivers.
But our democracy is solid, and we've got brains and resources and creativity and we think well of reason and science, so let's be aspirational.

I think that would be lovely.
It would also be to our benefit. I know it's an old saying, but the rising tide lifts all boats. It's better for us all when every Kiwi is doing well, when we are all served the same justice and have the same opportunities to excel.
It's better for us all when everyone has food on the table, safe, warm housing, a healthy ecosystem to support us and explore, and a strong belief in the basic value and worth of our fellow Kiwis.
There are a lot of people in a lot of countries who don't have even the hope of that right now.

There are a lot of Kiwis that don't have that right now either.

In fixing the latter, we can help the former. People with our advantages should not be idle.
I'm not gonna flag wave and ask-what-you-should-do-for-your-country, because I really don't think that's us, and besides, laser kiwi wouldn't go for it.

I do think, though, that we have breathing space and opportunity right now to learn to be extraordinary. That's it, thank you!
