Billionaire corps just hijacked the ballot measure system in CA by spending millions to mislead voters. The most expensive ballot measure in U.S. history, is a loss for our democracy that could open the door to other attempts by corps to write their own laws.

Gig workers did not lose today, democracy did. When corporations spend 100 of millions of dollars to write their own labor laws even after our elected officials & public institutions have, numerous times, rejected them, that is a loss for our system of gov & working people.
Uber, Lyft, & the other gig cos took a ballot measure system meant to give voice to ordinary Californians and made it benefit the richest corps on the planet. That is a naked power grab and one more instance of corporations writing their own rules.
For California’s gig workers, this is far from over. These fights take time,& gig workers always knew they were up against some of the most unscrupulous corporations in the history of the state. GWR will fight to ensure drivers aren’t abandoned in the middle of a pandemic.
We know Californians stand with us: A full 40% of those who cast their ballot for Prop. 22 did so believing they were giving drivers a living wage, misinfo peddled by gig cos. Drivers are still owed protections, wages, paid time off, & we’re going to make sure the cos provide it.
While greedy corporations misled the public and despite being outspent by 10 to 1 our broad based coalition received over 4.5 million votes so far with millions more left to count. This shows the power of working people coming together against corporations.
We knew Prop 22 was never going to be the end. This battle is but a stepping stone towards our continued fight to get gig workers the rights, benefits, and dignified working conditions they deserve.
Huge thank you to all who who supported and worked hard on this campaign. In particular to every single driver who fought so hard against the millionaires.

Our movement is strong & we'll keep fighting until drivers are treated w/the dignity & respect they deserve.
