Want something to break up your doom-scrolling? Introducing... "Celebrities Impersonating Sharks."

Cause this kind of #shark #scicomm is keeping me entertained!
First up we have celebrity Blake Lively channeling her inner nurse shark (Ginglymostoma cirratum), a type of carpet shark. Nurse sharks occur in warm tropical and subtropical shallow waters off coasts of the Atlantic and the Eastern Pacific.

Billy Porter was definitely channeling the velvet belly lantern shark (Etmopterus spinax) with this show-stopping velvet number. Both are just STUNNING.

Velvet belly lantern sharks are one of the most common deepwater sharks in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean!
Megan Thee Stallion is giving me tiger vibes... juvenile tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) vibes, that is. These sharks vibrant stripes fade as they age! #Finfact: they are the only extant member of the genus Galeocerdo.
Amal & George Clooney went with a lemon shark (Negaprion brevirostris) motif for the Royal Wedding. They get their name because of the yellowish tint of their skin, which allows them to blend into the surrounding sand.

Arianna Grande is looking like a fierce great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) here! Known as the "white pointer" in Australia, it is a large shark that can be found in coastal waters worldwide.

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj seem to be getting fashion tips from the leopard shark (also known as the zebra shark)! Scientifically known as Stegostoma fasciatum or Stegostoma tigrinum, these sharks are found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific region.

🦈📸: Ivan Hiver
Celebrities Blake Lively & Rita Ora were channeling catsharks that communicate by glowing green in patterns that are unique to each species and sex! Wonder what these two ladies were communicating...

🦈📸: David Gruber
Michelle Obama is channeling the blue shark (Prionace glauca) in this gorgeous look! Having been recorded in all tropical and temperate seas, this wide-ranging shark species is just as much world traveler as the First Lady!

Check our Rihanna and the goblin shark (Mitsukurina owstoni) matching in pink! It is the only extant representative of the family Mitsukurinidae

The goblin shark has extremely sharp teeth, which it uses to spear its prey and swallow it whole. Savage.

Bey looked to this Aussie shark for her fashion inspo! Meet the epaulette sharks, which use their sturdy pectoral and pelvic fins to sometimes WALK. They hunt along the shallow exposed reef zones when it is exposed at low tide.

Kate Middleton is certainly a celebrity... and one who resembles the graceful whale shark (Rhincodon typus) in this outfit! Arguably one of the most beautiful sharks. The largest known extant fish, they travel large distances to feed (on plankton) and reproduce.

🦈📸: Sam Farkas
And can't forget J.Lo looking ethereal in this all-white gown... similar to the albino whale shark once photographed off the coast of Darwin, an island in the Galapagos.
Blake Lively really likes sharks! Doesn't she look like the extraordinary looking tasselled wobbegong (Eucrossorhinus dasypogon) here? A member of the carpet shark family, they are famous for lying motionless on the ocean floor to wait for its prey.

🦈📸: Sam FarkasEthan Daniels
Who wore it best: Zendaya on the Greenland shark (Somniosus microcephalus)? Scientists recently estimated that a Greenland shark was 392 years old +- 120 years, making it the longest-lived vertebrate known.

This fashionista, Victoria Beckham, is nodding to blacktip reef sharks (Carcharhinus melanopterus) in this ensemble. A wide-ranging species, they are commonly found in tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-Pacific.

🦈📸: Tom Vierus
We can't forget the other Royal celebrity: Meghan Markle! Her gorgeous blue New Zealand visit ensemble reminds me of shortfin mako sharks (Isurus oxyrinchus), the fastest shark in our oceans!

Did you know: there are TWO mako shark species?

🦈📸: Brian Skerry
Perhaps Scarlett Johansson took some notes from the ornate wobbegong (Orectolobus ornatus) for this outfit. A nocturnal hunter, it prefers bays and shallow reefs in the western Pacific Ocean (primarily around AU).

🦈📸: Andy Murch
Eva Longoria is looking like a POWERHOUSE in this all-white look. Similar to this school shark (Galeorhinus galeus). This particular individual has a condition called leucism that results in loss of pigmentation. Usually, they are a grey color.

🦈📸: Fox News
Olivia Culpo looking a lil bit like a Port Jackson shark (Heterodontus portusjacksoni). A type of bullhead shark of the family Heterodontidae they are named after Port Jackson Harbour in Sydney... where you see a lot of them!

🦈📸: Museums Victoria Collections
Tom Holland looking like he’s ready for bed... like the pyjama shark (Poroderma africanum). This bottom dweller is endemic to the coastal waters of South Africa!
Michael B. Jordan’s outfit here looks like a nod to sand tiger sharks (Carcharias taurus). These sharks live in temperate and sub-tropical coastal waters around the world, including the eastern coastline of the USA. Ever seen them?

🦈📸: Getty
Chris Evans channeling the ninja lanternshark (Etmopterus benchleyi). The scientific name of this shark pays homage to Jaws author Peter Benchley! These sharks glow in the dark, because their skin contains photophores that emit a faint glow 😱

🦈📸: Vicky Vásquez
Lebron James is rocking the same colour palette as the bluegrey carpetshark (Brachaelurus colcloughi). Also known as Colclough's shark, they are an uncommon species that is endemic to shallow waters off northeastern Australia.
Brie Larson is looking like she’s made outta copper! Is this a nod to the copper shark aka bronze whaler (Carcharhinus brachyurus)? These sharks are found worldwide in warm temperate and subtropical coastal and continental shelf waters.

🦈📸: Rudie H. Kuiter
Chrissy Teigen ( @chrissyteigen) is channel sandbar shark (Carcharhinus plumbeus) in this fashionable choice! A widespread species, it is found in the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific coastal waters and shallow estuaries.

Look at Hilary Duff in this cute grey ensemble! Reminds me of the spear tooth shark (Glyphis glyphis)! Very little is known about them but scientists think it is a fish feeder adapted to life in turbid waters.

🦈📸: Charlotte Klempin, Charles Darwin University
Naomi Campbell is looking fierce in her prickly dogfish (Oxynotus bruniensis) inspired Royal Wedding look. This deepwater critter had a unique humpback body shark and is pretty darn cute.

🦈📸: Getty
Had to do a double take between Taylor Swift and chain dogfish (Scyliorhinus retifer). This demersal species resides in subtropical waters - sounds nice! Who wore it best? 😉

🦈📸: George Burgess
Harry Styles could cut people with how sharp he looks here (an old pic). Similar to the cutting tail of the thresher shark. Thresher shark scythe-like tail constitutes nearly 50% of shark's total length!

🦈📸: David Seifert
Let’s talk about how this Camila Cabello dress and this salmon shark (Lamna ditropis) are ROCKING the counter camouflage (an animal's coloration is darker on the upper side & lighter on the underside). Salmon sharks are found in the northern Pacific ocean.
