The polls are still open, but we want to just stop & acknowledge how damn hard this fight has been for drivers.
We were outspent 10-1 by the richest firms in the world.
No matter what happens, we made Prop.22 a neck-&-neck race.
Driver organizing is the victory.

Drivers did so much for this campaign. They've done protest after protest, rocking up to cities across California & multiple times to Uber's HQ in San Francisco.
Like when we brought a giant baby after the companies threatened to move out of the state... https://www.vice.com/en/article/bv8b5v/protesting-drivers-unveil-big-inflatable-diaped-up-baby-outside-uber-hq

Way back in May, we organized our first #NoOnProp22 action: A car caravan when Uber & Lyft announced they wouldn't comply w/state law & were funding a ballot measure instead.
Drivers took what they had—their cars—& put them on the line for their rights. https://www.vice.com/en/article/g5ppqq/uber-and-lyft-drivers-organize-caravan-outside-uber-hq

We've done so many of these actions in cities across the state we've lost count.
We've talked to countless voters & drivers, passed out so much PPE when the companies failed to do so, & made sure everyone knew Prop. 22 would be ruinous for drivers. https://twitter.com/GigWorkersRise/status/1311416284710531073?s=20

And so many of our allies came together two weeks ago, bringing hundreds of people out to Uber's HQ against Prop. 22.
Drivers & janitors & Teamsters w/their big trucks & electeds & so many more joined us to protect our rights. https://twitter.com/GigWorkersRise/status/1316819743207157761?s=20

When we saw Uber's CEO in the NYT, we knew we couldn't let his lies go unchallenged, so Derrick, a GWR driver, wrote a strong response.
"To Uber, drivers are just another business cost to be solved for, not human beings who deserve to work with dignity." https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/04/opinion/uber-drivers-california-regulations.html

It wasn't just Uber drivers. Kurt, a software engineer at the company, said he was voting against Prop. 22 b/c he knew enough about the company to know it wouldn't treat drivers well.
"Workers are subsidizing the product with their free labor." https://techcrunch.com/2020/10/06/im-a-software-engineer-at-uber-im-voting-against-prop-22/

And we helped tell so many driver stories, like that of Carlos, whose grandma fought a different Prop. 22 in the 70s that would've done to farmworkers what this would do to drivers.
“This fight for laborers, this fight for rights—it never goes away." https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/oct/15/california-proposition-22-uber-lyft

Or just today, with Chase's story in the Post about how his pay has gone from as much as $400/day in 2016 to $150/day now, & how he has to start the week driving to Sac to rent a $260 Chevy Bolt.
“We cannot let this become a new normal in our society." https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2020/11/03/uber-prop22-results-california/

Drivers have done so much for this campaign. They've told their stories to dozens of reporters, gone to protest after protest, & continued working this whole time.
We're so damn proud. Our organizing is powerful.
That is the victory, no matter what happens.
