Here’s a thread educating you guys about this election. It’s gonna be super easy to understand if you don’t know politics like me 
Starting off, if 100 million people in the whole US vote biden and 88 million people vote trump, that DOES not mean biden wins the election
The election is based of the electoral college which basically means each state has a certain number that goes towards the final election
this means that if texas ends up with 2 million people voting grump and only 1 million people voting biden, trump wins that state.
Because Texas is a fairly big state, it counts as 38 points. So, if trump wins, texas, he gets 38 *electoral votes* in the election
Whichever presidents gets 270 electoral votes, that president wins the election.
California is worth 55 electoral votes, New york 29, and smaller populated states are worth less.
Now that you guys understand that, here are some fun facts about the election:
The election will not determine who wins for about 1 week because of how many votes there have been compared to past elections.
Last election there was a total of 120 million voters across the US and before election day (today) there was already 100 million votes, so obviously records will be broken this year.
Another thing, some states like new york are basically guaranteed to be democratic so everyone knows biden will win New York.
A lot of states are like this, (people know of trump or biden will win them already) however, there are a few states that are always not republican or democrat.
These states include of texas, pennsylvania, ohio, and a few more.
Basically, before election day which is today, trump and biden have been campaigning in those 5ish states knowing that those 5 states will be the ones who determine who win
this is because around 40 states are almost already guaranteed to be republican or democrat, so there’s no need in wasting time campaigning thee if u already know if u lossed ot won that state
Additionally, our votes don’t really count for anything, they just show the “electors” of our state (the people who actually vote for the president) who are state would support more, so they would probably vote for trump if their state voted more trump than biden.
HOWEVER, they do not have to do this. There was a court case in the year of 2000 that said electors can choose differently from what their state wants. (some people think this is stupid)
SO, basically the last month trump has been going to neutral states reminding people of this so if texas does become a blue state (democratic) (becomes a blue state when more people vote for biden versus trump), the electoral number (38) can still go towards trump.
ALSO, trump says he’s declaring himself winner of the election tonight, and he’s basically doing this because if he doesn’t win, he can start a court case claiming that the votes were fraud
Voting fraud happens about .005% of the time so it’s basically giving trump more time to be in office.
LAST THING, trump says he already has lawyers ready to go if he loses the electoral votes (doesn’t get it 270 and biden does) (this will lose him the whole election and he won’t be president)
because if he loses he says he’s gonna start a court case with EVERY single state he lossed in and basically count the votes 1 by 1 because he’s gonna claim the states he loses are fraud
