...but German people in the 30's - if I understand it rightly, primarily midddle and working class - were also suffering from a lack of social esteem.

I think Trump's rise and (yikes) possible re-election is tied...

...to a group of people who are in despair. Yes, the policies they vote for will negatively impact racial minorities and immigrants. So, there actions are racist and nativist.

But the root cause is low social esteem.

After this election...

...the appropriate response for scholars is to explore this lack of esteem in the white working class even more. We need more narratives and ideas that explain their lived experiences.

For government leaders, it is time to begin including class in diversity efforts.
