i don’t think a lot of non jewish people realize how terrifying the situation in vienna is -
being told that we need to hide our kippot and stars of david and being advised to hide inside is trauma inducing. the fact that the synagogue in question was the last one standing after kristallnacht is trauma inducing.
after hearing the news yesterday, i went completely numb for hours. i couldn’t go back to class. and then i started panicking. where am i going to hide? who can i trust? and i’m not even in vienna.
on the verge of finally calming down, i was made aware of jewish graves vandalized in michigan. even when we’re dead, we aren’t respected.
the holocaust is embedded in the souls of the jewish people - we have intergenerational trauma to this day yet are constantly ridiculed and told we’re being dramatic when we talk about the deadly effects of antisemitism.
regardless of if no one jewish ended up dead from it, the entirety of the terror attack creates havoc in every jewish person across the world.
we could use friends to lean on and people to trust right now. don’t use our pain and trauma for statistics if you’re going to abandon us right after when we need you the most. don’t claim to be our ally and call us dramatic when we talk about fearing for our lives.
fine for non jews to rt. i’ll compile some resources under this in a bit.
