Dear everyone: I started making the hedgehog's birthday cake. (Gonna layer teeny banana pancakes with some hedgehog treats, dried crickets and mealworms.)

The "pancakes" are literally just a ripe banana and one egg, beaten together.

OMG it's so cute.

Birthday party — and pics — won't happen for a few more hours (it's the middle of the night for him, after all) but omg I outdid myself.

PS, the "frosting" is less than half a teaspoon of plain unsweetened yogurt. The sprinkles are a special hedgie snack of crickets, mealworms, and dried peas/carrots. Naked cakes are still in, right?

I should have prefaced all of this by saying Hedgewig the Angry Inch is a very picky ouch-mouse, so.... This cake could have all been for naught! he likes it.

I woke him up tooooo soon and he's very grumpy and not hungry. He was uninterested in cake, but I'll make a second attempt later. That said.... I made him a hat and invited some friends to the party.

Cake is still intact, but I'm gonna try again later! I just gave him a birthday bath, so he's not exactly happy with papa right now.

I have video of him trying to walk off the table instead of eating the cake. Same, lil buddy. Same.

Before the reviews come in, he's actually a very boring, very sweet, but very grumpy creature, LOL

Anyway, Hedgewig and I hope my little hedgehog birthday escapade brought some lightness to your day! He's burrowed back into his little hidey hole until later this evening.

Update: I put the cake scraps into his bowl an hour ago (full cake is on top of cage). I just peeped in because I heard him nibbling, and he's currently going to town on the scraps, so it was definitely a bad timing choice on my part!
