Though one of their functions was to raise Muslim concerns to the ruling class - they failed in that aspect - because the rulers saw them as propaganda pieces rather than real partners.

Instead sarkaris were used for Mushairas, Tamashas and the yearly Iftar party.

3.
At the end of the party, the sarkaris praised the rulers for their "immense support" for the Muslim causes. The rulers made some appropriate non-binding promises. The news media pushed it up prominently.

The majority Hindus read it and got angry at the appeasement.

4.
The ordinary Muslims looked at these shenanigans and shook their heads and called it - "bade logon ke chonchle hai saab".

Though they were aware of the sham played by the sarkaris - they had no real power or medium to voice their displeasure.

5.
With their frequent shows of Muslim clout - and their constant concessions on behalf of the community at the altar of Gunga Jamuni charas and/or secularism - the sarkaris were definitely out of touch with common Muslims.

But the sham kept going till ...

6.
A miracle happened with social media. Common Muslims who did not have a voice earlier - now found it. Initially, these voices were marginalized as anti-national, extremists, fundamentalists, ISI - till they grew in sufficient volume & number to be taken seriously.

7.
That process is ongoing. The privileged lineage of sarkaris for whom the promise of India has been fulfilled - at the cost of throwing their own community under the bus - are angry as hell at the vocal Muslims for threatening their entitlement to speak on our behalf.

8.
To be fair, most Muslims who are in favor of government policy sometime are not sarkari.

Sarkaris are those whose language is consistently in tune with that of the people in power - with sufficient hedging to gaslight Muslims into believing it is for their own good.

9.
The struggle against a sarkari narrative is assymetric - they have backing of power, media megaphones & state propaganda on their side.

There is no use in calling out a sarkari a sarkari - they know this. They don't care as long as they even have a marginal stake in power.

10.
The only way to fight a sarkari narrative is to build your own. Speak up freely & fairly for what you think is right - and speak in words that your own community can understand.

There is no secret sauce. You have to speak for yourself or a sarkari will do it for you.
