1. A thread on the importance of the Electoral College:

Those who are opposed to the Electoral College have NO understanding of what it is, how it is proportioned, how it functions, or why.
2. The EC is proportioned exactly like our Congressional representation in the House and Senate.

Those to oppose it must therefore also oppose the established representation of each state in Congress.
3. To wit: Each state is appointed 2 Senators so that each state has an equal voice in the Senate.

Each state’s House Representatives is determined by that state’s POPULATION so that each state’s voice in the House is “representative” of the population of that state.
4. The Senate has equal representation. The House reflects the population size of each state.

The Electoral College is based on THAT SAME REPRESENTATION so that each state has the same voice in the Presidential election as is in Congress.
5. States with larger populations have larger EC votes; states with smaller populations have less EC votes, just as our representation in Congress does.

Therefore, anyone proposing the abolition of the EC must, by definition, also be against our Congressional representation
6. The election of our president is a POPULAR vote at the state level. Then whichever candidate wins that state wins the Electoral College for that state. Those electors then submit their ballots for their candidate as the “representative” voice for their state.
7. The EC was established as the MOST fair and judicious method of election possible. Is it perfect? No. But is it FAIR?

Yes.

It is AS FAIR as our Congressional representation.
8. Those who want to abolish the EC actually want to suppress the representative votes of approximately 30 states AND the voters from AK, DE, DC, MT, ND, SD, VT, WY, HA, ID, ME, NH, RI, NE, NM, WV, AK, IA, KS, MI, NV, UT, CT, OK, OR, KY, LA, AL, CO, SC ---
9. -- who each have less than 10 Electoral College votes!!

If you want to abolish the Electoral College YOU'RE A VOTER SUPPRESSIONIST!!
10. “Just 10 years ago Ds had the House, 60 person filibuster proof majority in the Senate, the WH, & there was no talk about changing the electoral college or about how unfair it is that small states get equal representation in the senate to large states."

11. EVERY state except 7 - California, Texas, NY, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, & Florida - have smaller populations than the city of Los Angeles. 43 of 50 states.

Abolishing the Electoral College would mean LA would have more power than 43 states!
(H/T @charliekirk11)
12. The only people who want to abolish the Electoral College are TOTALITARIANS!!!
