As @RachelBitecofer has pointed out on another thread, Trump has pushed hard for his voters to show up and vote today while crapping on mail-in voting (giving Republican state parties heartburn). His whole game is a big Election Day turnout. So those lines today will be telling.
His goal is to "declare victory" based on today's vote plus whatever early votes have already been counted by tonight) then demand that no outstanding mail-in votes be counted, even if they were mailed on time and held up by the Postal Service his boy crippled. It's so Baratheon.
Lots of bad assumptions for Trump there, though. He is counting on a "red mirage" that might not even happen. What if he goes into tonight BEHIND in key states? None of us knows what that vote total will look like tonight. If he is behind he'll NEED those absentee votes counted.
Another issue: Black voters tend to be later voters -- yes lots of Black voters utilize early voting and more than usual are doing mail-in this year, but Black voters don't tend to trust these systems, especially those who live in red states, where Republicans disenfranchise us.
So expect lots of Black voters to also be in those lines today. Not good for Trump because sorry, even the vast majority of Black men are not gonna divorce themselves from the culture by siding with him. A few Black millionaires does not a majority make.
Also, how many Trump voters also took advantage of early voting and so are off the table for him? And how many who vote today are just his existing supporters and not new voters? The states with lots of new, YOUNG voters are the ones that are riskiest for Trump.
Lastly, it's not like only a tiny percentage of vote totals will be in tonight. Most states will have 80, 90 percent or more of their votes tallied tonight and many will only need til tomorrow or Friday to get their totals in. No real news network is going to call a state early.
Trump's whining can't make them. I guess Fox could give it a shot, and I'm sure OANN will declare Trump to be the one true King of the United States, to be worshipped upon our knees at once or else, but so???? No one on Earth One is going to care. Trump can whine all he wants.
There are already marches planned to demand that every vote get counted. That's already happening. And the Supreme Court would risk a complete meltdown in its credibility if Uncle Clarence, Scalito, Amy Covid, Beer Man http://et.al . just say f-- it, make him president.
What serious person wouldn't just begin ignoring whatever subsequent rulings they make? They would bring about the final demise of the Supreme Court as a credible authority. So I just doubt they'll be that blatant in stealing the election in advance. I could be wrong, of course.
