I really should stay off of social media. If I hear another 'students should get their fees back because they aren't being taught' or 'universities have pretty much closed again' comment, I think I might explode!

For anyone who is wondering, teaching is about 3 times more work at the moment - we are tired!
From a pedagogical point of view, student learning is improved by the blended teaching and learning at the moment.
This is because, contrary to (apparently) popular belief, we haven't just shoved a couple of recordings online for students to passively watch, because we actually know some stuff about how people learn - go figure!
We are following evidence based teaching and learning practices, with many of the methods actually promoting a deeper level of learning. Before coronavirus, this was often considered innovative!
From a student point of view, the vast majority that I have spoken to actually feel that they are learning more and participating more by using increased digital means to do so.
This isn't a shock to me, I've been increasing the use of digital tools in my teaching since I started at the beginning of my PhD, because the students engaged better with it, because it is familiar to them. Before coronavirus, this was often considered innovative!
I love my job and I am so incredibly lucky to be able to do something I feel so passionate about. So, while I should not care what someone with absolutely zero understanding of any of the above thinks, it is wearing a bit thin now.
Mostly, I just wanted to rant, but hopefully also provide some perspective for anyone wondering why we might be getting so annoyed at these comments. The End!
