Hi! I've spent the past few weeks reporting + talking to voters in FL, GA, NC, OH, MI, + PA. Not at campaign events, just polling places, drop boxes, random shopping centers. Here are some anecdotal observations from the ground (I don't usually do these threads, but here goes!)
-Voters are more strategic than ever. (I reported on this in 2019:  https://www.cbsnews.com/news/what-are-democrats-looking-for-in-2020-who-can-beat-trump/ ) Voters told us how obsessive they are about making sure their ballot gets where it needs to go to be counted. They're checking apps tracking wait times, watched ballot info videos, etc
-The idea of "returning to normal" is popular. What it means, however, depends on whom you're supporting. Trump voters told us they just want to return to life before the pandemic. Biden backers said normal means before Trump, or a time when politics wasn't, well, everything.
-The pandemic is either everything in this election or it's not. Trump voters told us variations of it's not his fault, the economy is a priority. Biden voters told us Covid is top of mind--not just the # of deaths but also how it has uprooted their daily lives.
