Btw, this isn't the first time ppl are killed bc of security forcesâ dereliction of duty, or worse their involvement. Right after #Hachaaluu's assassination, security forces ignored victimsâ pleas for help bc âthey have no ordersâ and we know how the govât exploited that tragedy.
It isn't also stg that's peculiar to the current spate of violence. Almost three years ago during the peak of #OromoProtests, 70+ #Somalis were massacred .oments after the military withdrew from a volatile area in West Hararghe while victims sadly pleaded with them not to leave.
Back then, it would be learnt later, one of #TPLFâs strategies was to use Abdi Iley and their #OPDO henchmen, some of them are ironically still around, to incite ethnic and border clashes to discredit the uprising in #Oromia and elsewhere and frame it as inter-ethnic violence.
And for that happen it will use state and non-state actors to either commit or facilitate some gruesome violence against civilians and use that as a cover to scare people and observers alike and eventually deflect attention from the basic and legitimate demands by the people.
And sadly, that sinister strategy worked to some extent when some us in the Diaspora who has so little understanding of what's going on the ground accused those gruesome attacks on #Qeerroo on #Jawar on #Lemma and on every boogeyman we can come up with.
I will, for example, only learn the complex truth after the same #Jawar I vilified online, accused him of those horrific crimes & called him every name helped me rescue 19 of the survivors through the then treacherous #Somaliâ #Oromia border village after village, town after town.
Only then did I fully learn the dynamics that were in play, came to know the ppl we saw as mortal enemies nd murderers bit closer, built lasting value-based friendships that're solid to this day including that of my unshakable bond with the man we affectionately call #UgaasJawar.
That's why it pains me when I see ppl who are both victims of the same crisis; a dangerously autocratic regime thatâs killing its ppl intentionally, by its incompetence or by turning one agst the other. I've been there, I understand both and I know its one giant misunderstanding.
