Today, I hope and pray for the resounding and total defeat of Trumpism at the polls. In my opinion, in the category of electoral results, it would be the greatest blessing God could give this nation and His church.
1/
While I will never cast a vote for a man like Joe Biden or those in his party, the GOP and the church need to go to bed the night after results are clear and say to themselves “We’ve made a terrible mistake. Never again.”
2/
For the GOP (which I care far less about than the church) a resounding defeat would force them to face the fact that they aren’t the Conservative/constitutional party anymore. They need to see that the way to win and the way to help the nation is to finally be that party.
3/
For the church, they need to feel how empty and futile their idolatry has become. They need to see their idols as empty - statues that would fall over if they weren’t always nailing them down.
4/
The church needs to feel the rejection of the nation and the scorn of lost people who stopped listening to morality lessons from enablers. They need to feel lost as they realize how far they’ve drifted into a civic national religion and away from the Gospel.
5/
It wasn’t that long ago that I used to hear it repeated that Clinton and Trump were a judgement on this nation. Now all I hear is how great Trump is and how God has blessed us and is working through him.

The church has indeed lost her first love. She needs to find it again.
6/
I think a sobering and shocking defeat could be the alarm clock on the first day of finding that first love again. A beginning, not and end. So I’m praying for that. May God be so merciful as to wake up His “prone to wander” church.
7/
I envision a church that isn’t bent towards one wicked politician or party over another. One that isn’t sold out to a secular movement as American churches largely are. I envision this in much the same way I envision a day where an addict isn’t defined by his drugs.
8/
But the first step for the addict to becoming useful and fruitful again is to abandon those drugs. It is a merciful thing to prevent him from having them, then to sit with him through the painful detox, then to work with him through the reforming of his mind.
9/
So also it must be with the church. And the first step has to be to smash the idol and suffer the shame of its broken pieces.

But that’s not the only step.
10/
I’m ready to be here for the rest that comes after the church gives up its idols of Trumpism & political power. I’m ready to sit patiently through the detox, ready to help reform the mind of the church. But the drugs need to be flushed -the idol needs to be smashed - first.
11/
So I’m praying for it, I’m hoping for it. Smash those idols, Lord. Defeat this wickedness. And give us strength to live through the wickedness that will rule in its place. Most of all help us to come back to you.
12/12
P.S. To be abundantly clear: I am not voting for a single democrat today. While I am voting for republicans, I refuse to vote for Trumpists - their namesake most of all.
P.P.S. To those of you that say I am too political... you need to understand this is largely not a political thread. I am talking about the church in my country. I am talking about idolatry. If all you get from that is “this is his politics” then YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
