not to Create Discourse™ but seeing as we're on the precipice of finding out whether one of the world's superpowers will fall even more to open fascism, i wanna talk about something that grinds my gears about hopepunk, liberalism and this idea that hope will just fix things

hope is inert matter, it does nothing in a vacuum. it only matters as the foundation of action. the only good idea to come out of geoff johns's green lantern is that hope is nothing without the willpower to act.

you can't just hope away fascism.

you can't just pretend like people will return to better natures when it's proven that they prefer the power that comes with being in positions of oppression, they want to kill you and subjugate you because you are not human to them

you don't just hope away genocide

liberalism won't fix shit. democracy won't fix shit. pretending like we're all better than this won't fix shit because that's patently not true.

fascism isn't a bug in the system, it is the system. it is the natural endpoint of inequality. and capitalism is built on inequality.

whether or not trump wins this week, we're in for a four year long fight against fascism and the left must be prepared to actively fight against these people

political violence will be a necessity
