What do scholars mean when they prescribe du’as for depresson and anxiety? Do they mean that du’as will solve all problems?

(a thread)

To understand this, we need to understand how Du’as work. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Tie your camel, and then trust Allah.”
In Islam, a person must put in physical effort after making du’a. You simply can’t pray for money and not look for work (See the explanation of Qur’an: 2:197).
Similarly, we can’t just pray for mental health and not work towards fixing it. We must pray for our mental health.
But we should also seek counselling, exercise, socialize with people, work through our thoughts and traumas and so much more!

Du’as are a necessary ingredient. But they work best when Allah sees us putting in the work as well!
