Hi, I’m @DrMikeFarquhar
I started this account in 2018, part of @RainbowNHSBadge project
We’re coming to end of our first Phase and, v soon now, we hope to be able to share Phase II plans with you
As part of that, I’ll be retiring from this account (I may get a wee bit emosh!)

Between now and the end of the year, we’ll keep you updated as to what’s happening next with the project but, for now, here’s the story of how it all began, what it’s all about, and some of the people who’ve got it to where it is

The @NHSEngland LGBT+ Health Team ( @drmbrady @lizzietweeter @TashMashhh) sent around an email update today, including an update on Phase 2 plans for @RainbowNHSBadge

V pleased that this process is moving forward really well and, over next few weeks, we’ll update you to that
But, as part of Phase II, the comms in relation to this project will pass over to whichever external provider takes on the challenge of building on what we’ve done so far

So, indulge me a little please, as my time here is now coming to an end :)
This project started as an idea amongst friends, and has grown into something far more than I’d ever imagined
It has been challenging and rewarding in equal measure

If you’d told me 3 years ago I’d be spending so much time on this I’d not’ve believed you
I have made mistakes, and learnt loads from them, along the way
I hope I have used this platform to educate, to inform, to connect, and to advocate for LGBT+ people, in the NHS and beyond

I think there is huge opportunity to continue to build on what we have done to date, and I’m grateful to all those who have helped develop, nurture and protect what we’ve been trying to do
If I were to do it all again, there are definitely decisions I’d make differently

There remain significant challenges for LGBT+ people in the UK, both in the context of the NHS and beyond
I’m confident this project will continue to be some part of the solution to those challenges, and I look forward to still being a small part of that

I’ll be around on this account for a wee while yet but, at some point in the next few weeks this account will go temporarily silent, as we transition it to its new stewards, for them to decide how best to use it
Twitter has been a huge part of @RainbowNHSBadge story, and I hope it continues to be so
The initial idea of this project spread via Twitter word-of-mouth, and it has continued to be a really important aspect of what I think we’ve achieved - thank you, again, to all who helped

I can’t thank everyone, but thank you especially to @DrJJE @fakethom @HappyClairy @HumanTourniquet @HSB42 @caillea Jess Law @NerdOdactyl @EvelinaLondon @Emma_rcpch @GSTTCharity @GSTTlgbt @drmbrady @lizzietweeter and so many many more ... you’re ALL amazing

A lot of the time I’ve felt like a well-intentioned amiable idiot sort of muddling through with everywhere this project has taken me; I am, I confess, a little relieved that I will soon get to hand it onto people more qualified to continue to make it something to be proud of
My own reasons for investing so much into this project are still best summarised here https://twitter.com/i/events/1132727151407632385?s=21
