If we look back at the average positions (admittedly it doesn’t show everything but it’s a good base to start with) we see quite a few obvious issues. #WBA right, #FFC left
As mentioned y’day, when Pereira (12) drifts inside, the space is vacated so Furlong can drive into it - which is fine when attacking. The real issue is when we lose the ball.
With the ball carriers of Cairney, Lemina and Frank, it allowed Fulham to sit back and break. As you can see for Fulham, they had 3 players in Furlong’s vacated position - Cairney (10) was v clever to continually find himself in that space.
It doesn’t help when Ivanovic is isolated (why isn’t Ajayi on the right?!) so it’s much easier for Fulham to play through.
One other thing is that Livermore is often pulled over to try and cover that space, meaning there’s a massive gap in the middle. Basically, Fulham got it spot on.
We became too predictable so they could either play behind Furlong towards Lookman and attack from there, or when Livermore pulled over to cover, they could use Cairney, Lemina & Frank through the middle.
It was a poor game from #WBA pov, but we’re still only 7 games in. Of @Other14The teams, we’ve only played Leicester and Burnley at home, all the rest have been away.
In the prem, any away points are a bonus so if we focus on our home games we should have a chance of staying up. Yes it’s not great but we’re not down yet! #WBA
