I would like to thank @BamaStephen @jkempcpa @TheValuesVoter & @HeathMayo for getting me through the past few weeks. Their integrity and civility give me hope for the future of conservatives in the US. We need a strong voice on the right rather than the mess the GOP has become.
I turned on notifications for these 4 accounts and it had made all the difference. I am finally allowing myself to imagine a post-Trump future, though I realize he will not be a usual past president. He will continue to break norms even after leaving the White House.
I’ve made it nearly 4 full years without using the words President and Trump together as I still consider his election illegitimate. Not the will of the American people, but the will of a Russian propaganda campaign that flipped 77,000 voters across 3 states.
I am so glad this nightmare is about to end, but if it does not, I will be becoming a permanent resident of my current host country. I have no interest in being part of a nation that would elect someone so clearly unfit and ill-equipped for the job .... twice.
But I am confident he will lose if the election is not stolen through voter suppression and a partisan federal court system. Which I acknowledge is still possible.
I used to consider myself conservative, but I can no longer defend the status quo. Our system is broken & needs fundamental reform. This will start with electing people of integrity & virtue, getting $ out of politics, & exposing the anti-democratic activities of partisan groups.
Conservatives should be winning elections based on their ideals and evidence-based policies that are equitable for all Americans. They should not be relying on white grievance and voter suppression. That is not a winning formula for long term relevance.
Conversely, liberals should be winning elections based on their ideals and evidence based policies that are equitable for all Americans. They should not be relying on minority grievance and demonization of the right. They are ascendant and deserve to be, but ...
American politics has always swung on a pendulum and there will come a day when Democrats will again lose control. Therefore, a coalition of like-minded people of principle on all sides of the of political spectrum should begin discussions of fundamental reform.
If Democrats allow this on their watch, they will have earned a great deal of credibility as a party who put country over power. That level of virtue in today’s political climate would be an enormous benefit to help heal the political divide currently threatening to rip us apart.
