Okay, everyone, take a deep breath.

We're going to rip off the Band Aid. In 3 2 1...

I'm expecting Trump to win.

I could be wrong. I hope I am.

If he does, don't panic. You're not alone. We'll get through this together.

This is one tiny battle in a war we will win.

Put aside all that "This is our last chance to save democracy" talk.

Because there is no last chance to save democracy.

Democracy is more than a set of laws on paper. It is a frame of mind. A way of thinking, acting and believing. It is a series of principles we commit to.

Democracy will not die if Trump wins. Democracy will only die if we do nothing in the face of his evil. That's the key. Democracy only dies when we give up on it.

The climate crisis will not spin out of control simply because Trump won. The climate crisis will spin out of control if we do nothing in the face of corporate greed.

Trump may make our job harder but nothing short of abdication of duty can make our job impossible.

Joe Biden was never the way to defeat Trump. Even if he wins, it will be hollow unless we act to make him do the right thing.

The way to defeat not just Trump but the system that created him is to live by our ideals.

Compassion, honesty and most importantly solidarity: these are the weapons that can defeat fascism. Not just in slogans not just in memes but in policy.

We must create policy based on our ideals. Policy based on caring for everyone, especially the most vulnerable.

That means protecting our ecosystem. Feeding the hungry, healing the sick. And disrupting those systems of authority that tell us this is impossible.

We can make a world without poverty, without war. If we act together. I intend to keep trying, I hope you'll join me.
