On the eve of madness, thinking about the best moment in my life, courtesy of @joshritter, who I should of thanked for his music and how much it's brought me peace in May of 2019 when I walked by him after his show at the vic in Chicago. Magic. Straight magic.
I went to the show alone, and it was (embarrassingly) one of my first concerts. I was so excited, so nervous. I stopped for a beer before hand and met some other fans. I got there way too early, and was too nervous to stand in the front. I should have.
I was so happy that night. It was like another world. Anyone who knows me in *real life* knows I am obsessed with @joshritter (for good reason, given the time I discovered him with regard to my mental health issues). That night took me to another world, and I think of it often.
He's given me hope, and laughter, and peace when I struggled to find anything at all, let alone those.
The point is, if you want to create something, anything, do it. You never know what your creative endeavors will inspire. What they will effect or change. Who they will effect or change. If you believe in something and yourself, make it. And share it. Vulnerability is love.
Write, sing, record, film, sketch, sculpt, paint, weld, play. It's worth it, no matter what you fear about what people will think or say. Your story, however you decide to tell it, deserves to be told.
I learned guitar specifically so I could play his song, "Still Beating", because it was what got me through a suicide attempt in my senior of high school. Tell your story. It can, legitimately and literally, save people from despair.
Our stories matter, and they show how we are connected through time and struggle. I'll end this eve of madness with one of @joshritter's lyrics:
"But after all is come and gone
And after every songs been sung there
Comes a thought I won't defend
Sure stones are left unturned
And on the streets where home fires burn
I know our paths will cross again
Yes I, know our paths will cross again"
