Montana has 400 school districts. Each one is in charge of setting its own COVID policy. They are governed by superintendents and boards of trustees (elected officials). Don't like your school's COVID policy or history books? Who did you vote for in the last trustee election? 2/
County Commissioners in MT are currently determining whether our state will consider reviving passenger rail service. [Locally, the 3 Republicans repping my county said no.] They also hold the purse strings for mental health services and the local jail. 3/
State legislators set tax law. People complain endlessly about Montana's reliance on property taxes, but turn around and vote for Republican majorities who support...no other tax options. State legislators also determine public school funding and Medicaid criteria. 4/
In many states, Montana included, elections run on off-cycles. Next year municipal races (mayor, city council) are up. These races matter for daily life arguably MORE than federal races and they also need your cash and volunteer hours.
