Here are 16 plays we highlighted on rewatch that should give proper context on Spencer Sanders performance against Texas. Judge for yourself. (Thread)
5 Wide, curl is covered up, pump fakes at curl to move the DB inside to give check down enough space to get first down. This is really nice, manipulating defenders with eyes and pump fakes.
Takes a wasted step while stepping into pocket, turns 35 yard throw into 46 yard throw. Ball is underthrown, incomplete. He is so much better at 30-35 yard range vs. 45+ yard.
If this is PA (which I don't think it is) then this is clearly on SS. If this is RPO (which I think it is), I think CH needs to ride mesh point a little longer to allow proper time for read. Can see SS leaning forward. Hopefully someone out there in twitter world can confirm?
Not sure what to say here. Clean pocket, everyone is open and just freezes up. At a minimum chunk it out of bounds. None of the above here.
CB is in zone coverage with outside leverage. This ball (if thrown at all) needs to be high and to the outside, ball was delivered low and to the inside. Give your 6'6 WR a chance to use his size and go up and get it.
Feels rush, slides left while keeping eyes down field. Delivers strike while moving away from his body. These are progressions from 2019 -> 2020.
This definitely wasn't in his game last year. Hitch is covered up and quickly moves off to crosser. Works from one side of field to the other quickly for a nice gain. Quick decisions.
This is what makes him dangerous. Unsure if this is Draw RPO or he just recognizes an open rush lane. But you know that UT had in their scouting report that Sanders bounces everything outside. Puts nasty inside move on DB for big gain.
29 yard throw in rhythm, spots Safety rolling over the top and puts ball perfectly on Wallace's outside shoulder away from coverage. This distance is 👌
Inexcusable play. Just an awful decision, quite possibly worst play of his career given the chance of success here.
Spencer Sanders game in a nut shell. Coming off an awful "almost" INT above, comes out ripping w/ a strike to Braydon Johnson. Probably was a poor decision given the context of this drive towards end of half. But it worked and he is one of few QBs who have arm to do this.
Great awareness, feels coverage sliding underneath out route, puts nice touch to drop throw in.
Same thing but on opposite hash and DB gets more width, coverage sliding underneath and puts touch on it, throw is on the money. This is a big time throw.
Steps up and makes a big time throw on unscheduled play, waits as long as possible forcing defense to commit to stopping him as runner. He has bigtime playmaking ability.
Recognizes Inverted Tampa 2, knows Safety will shade towards Wallace and rips great throw on 4 verts to get into FG range to Stoner. He is very comfortable in 2x2 4 verts.
This is where lack of experience in late game situations is killer. Need better awareness. Have to throw out of bounds here. This forces you to spike on 3rd down and basically turned this into a 2 down set of downs when you had time for probably 4 plays to win the game.
Perfect ball right on outside shoulder of Landon Wolf.
