ALRIGHT. Enough of y'all asked for greek recipes. So, here's a thread. A lot of these I've picked up along the way, some of them are passed down in my family from Sparta & Stoupa.
Greek food, in my opinion, has a lot of flavor profiles many americans don't get to experience.
So please try it out and enjoy!! If you make any of these recipes, please let me know!! tag me! I wanna see and be proud! <3
Here is the shared document I have written everything in. I will detail in the rest of the thread what each item is and what page it's on. :) Also,
1. Moussaka (μουσακάς) Page: 1&2
Imagine lasagna, but it's got eggplant and cinnamon and ... I'm not gonna say the rest cause I feel like people cringe at the idea of it without giving it a shot ;)
2. Spanakopita (σπανακόπιτα) Page: 3&4
This is a classic and many non-greeks have probably tried it. Often cut into triangles, it's crispy phyllo dough filled with spinach and feta cheese.
3. Tyropita (τυρóπιτα) Page: 5
Much like spanakopita, but it's basically a cheese only version
Dolmades (for short)( (Ντολμάδες) Page: 6&7&8
Also known as stuffed grape leaves. You can do it with or without the meat. As long as you cook it right, the bitterness of the leaves ebbs and it's soooo delicious!
Avgolemono (αυγολέμονο) Page: 9&10
Lemon soup. SO good, and a classic around the holidays for my family. It's not as sour as you'd imagine. Technique is VERY important to get this right. Good with some pepper on top and some chicken!
Pastitsio (παστίτσιο) Page: 11&12
A lot like moussaka but with different ingredients. I find that the cinnamon flavor tends to be more... noticeable in this one, but I like it :)
Loukoumades (λουκουμάδες) Page: 13
These are basically like airy fluffy honey covered donuts!
Koulourakia (κουλουράκια) Page: 14 &15
Semi sweet but super delicious cookies! Also called Greek Easter Cookies. The recipe I have provided is from my family, and we prefer to use lemon or orange juice in them, whereas others use vanilla.
Baklava (Μπακλαβάς) Page: 16&17
Also another dessert many people know. Deliciously layered nuts and phyllo dough with cinnamon and soaked in honey.
Galaktoboureko (γαλακτομπούρεκο) Page: 18&19
This is essentially a custard pie. It's absolutely delicious and no joke like 1000 calories a serving. That should say it all.
