I don't disagree that the current divisiveness in America is untenable in the long run.

In the 90s, after the Cold War ended, suddenly the Red Scare anti-communism bullshit that kept Americans fearful and docile had no reason to work anymore. And the boomers started doing some REALLY unthinkable shit with that lack of fear, like vote for Democrats again.
So, Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich said, "What if we take that EXACT SAME irrational fear that Americans had towards the commies...and redirect it towards the American left wing?"
So they did. Relentlessly. For decades. Newt in Congress, and Rush over the airwaves.

Rush's rhetoric led directly to Fox News and far-right YouTube, while Newt's constant obstruction led directly to Mitch McConnell and a theocratic SCOTUS.
The left noticed this behavior and, on occasion, responded in kind. And the right just kept on escalating.

I want nothing more than for the two sides to be able to reconcile again. I really do.
