MAIL BALLOT EMERGENCY:

Every state has mechanisms to prevent double votes. If you are anything less than 100% certain that your mail-in ballot will be received no later than TOMORROW, you can use these to LEGALLY VOTE IN PERSON despite your ballot already being mailed. (1/10)
Step one - Verify.
You must be 100% sure that your ballot has been delivered, or will be delivered TOMORROW. Ignore any other suggested deadlines. After tomorrow is too late, even if it's not supposed to be. Don't take the risk. (2/10)
If you can track your ballot online, do so NOW. If you are able to achieve 100% assurance that you're ballot has or will arrive within the deadline, you're done. That's all you need. If you're only 99.9999999999999% or less, continue to Step two. (3/10)
Step two - Vote in person.
Elections are processes. Each state has safe guards built to prevent accidental double ballots. The details vary, but generally fall into two categories. So if you mailed in a ballot, you can go to the polls in person and let the process work. (4/10)
The first approach is that a mail ballot will effectively be automatically cancelled by the act of voting in person. The poll books will reflect that your voted in person, so when they verify the mail ballot, they'll know to set it aside. (5/10)
The second approach is that your in-person ballot is cast *provisionally*, which means that during counting they'll first check to see whether your mail ballot was received. If yes, then the elections board will set aside your in-person ballot. (6/10)
Either way, what matters is that, even if you've mailed in a ballot, you can still go to the polls tomorrow if you're less than 100% sure that your ballot will be received in time to count.

This gives rise to the question how can you be 100% sure you ballot will arrive in time? Simple answer: If you aren't 100% sure it's already arrived, then you can't. The Post Office is not reliable right now. (8/10)
POST MARKED BY ELECTION DAY deadlines:

Are you 100% sure that your local post office won't be understaffed tomorrow? That your ballot won't end up in a bin that isn't post marked until a day late? Or that your local office wasn't shorted on their ink pad supplies? (9/10)
Important to understand, this is NOT voting twice. Even though you'll be casting an alternate ballot, only one ballot will make it's way into the count.

This, instead, is how to utilize your state's laws to guarantee you'll get to vote at all. (10/10)
