For months, I was telling myself that Trump was going to get re-elected. I started doing this as a coping mechanism to prepare for the worst. But you know what I realized this week? I don’t believe it AT ALL.
Perhaps you think this makes me overly optimistic or idealistic. And I know that Trump and his team are going to do (and have already been doing) everything they can to take this election by lying, cheating, and voter suppressing. But even with all that, I still think he’ll lose.
How do I still feel this hopeful after 2016? Well, a few things. Firstly, I’m looking at turnout: early voting numbers are breaking all kinds of records. And that’s not just due to COVID- I’m talking beating TOTAL turnouts from 2016 JUST during early voting.
Secondly, and someone please link me these tweets if you have them saved, I saw a great thread the other day about how it seemed like Trump’s team based his entire campaign strategy on having a “controversial” opponent like Clinton or Sanders and then just... never switched it.
