My wife had talked about wanting to take piano lessons.
So when I saw a Roland digital piano on sale at a pawn shop earlier this year, I got it.
Since then, I started thinking about songs I used to play.

At one time, I could play The Entertainer, Against All Odds, Chopin's Prelude in C Minor, and Chopin's Prelude in E Minor.
That's it. 4 songs that anyone could recognize.

Now, for some reason, it seems important to re-learn those songs.
I'm not sure why.

It's not like friends are going to come over and say, Hey, Gitabushi, play Chopin's Prelude in E Minor!
it's not like my wife is going to want me to play her Against All Odds when she's in a bad mood.

I like playing them.
I guess The Entertainer would actually be the only one that is kind of entertaining. It's not difficult, but it's probably impressive to non-piano players.
The other three are all really good for emotional expression, tho.

There's quite a bid you can do with dynamics and tempo to increase the emotional expression of those songs.
I've worked about 2 hours on the emotional songs, and I think I'm really close to getting them down again. Maybe another 2 hours from having them memorized again.

Then I'll work on The Entertainer.
After that, I'm going to start working on learning how to play jazz piano.
I really want to be able to sit down and play Satin Doll, Fly Me to the Moon, and the like.

I want to know how to just play a big band jazz standard, with nice open piano chords.
Maybe from there I'll try to work in chord substitution.

I've also picked up some Easy Jazz versions of Christmas songs, cuz that could be fun, too.
That's it. That's the thread.
