Full-time thoughts (a short thread).

Wow. It’s another exemplary away performance from #LCFC, and that’s a credit to Rodgers. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, his pre-match tactical setups are brilliant (Man City, Arsenal, Leeds) - one of the best managers in the world for sorting his XI pre-game.

#LeeLei
The only thing I feel Rodgers is slightly complacent at, is mid-game adjustments - but they’re exceptionally difficult.

Today, his substitution of Maddison/Ünder was perfect. Maddison in between the lines (behind Leeds’ press) & Ünder stretching the defensive line.

Against Bielsa this is even more impressive.

The change of Poveda (at HT) was instrumental in their comeback vs. Man City, but today, Rodgers adjusted and neutralised the left-flank.

Helped by a brilliant performance from Luke Thomas.

It was clear that Leeds targeted the defensive left-side.

When Klich (CDM) received the ball, he opened his body to switch to Costa (RW). Bielsa pinpointed Thomas as being the weak link in #LCFC’s defence - understandable, but Thomas dealt with the onslaught v. well.

One-vs-one, Costa is one of the better wingers in the PL, and he struggled to get passed the 19-year-old.

Fuchs helped as well, covering the space behind & offered an assured passing lane to help relieve Thomas when he was being pressed - he suits the LCB role well.

My MoTM was Justin. He was the “progressive” short option for the entirety of the game, but defensively, he was faultless.

His step-up for the second goal was incredibly well-timed, he was in a 1vs3 (lose that & it’s great counter for Leeds).

Albrighton is superb as a RWB. He was vs. AEK, and he’s proven it today against good opposition.

His athleticism, awareness of danger, reading of when to commit to a challenge and engage the press is all at a top-level. A very good option alongside Castagne/Pereira.

The 3-4-3 structure required good displays from Tielemans/Mendy and they were both brilliant. A good relationship allows one to push forward, with the other sitting - as seen by Tielemans goal in the 1st half. Arguably, the “best” balance of a pivot in the #LCFC squad.

You can see the confidence in the attacking phases with Vardy starting.

There’s more assurance to the passes, particularly into the striker. The combinations of play between Barnes/Vardy is blossoming - it’s becoming instinctual - both with passing & movement.

#LeeLei
Rodgers stated that both players pace would cause issues, and he was spot on.

Within minutes, Barnes forced a misplaced pass, Vardy got to the ball first & that resulted in an early goal.

Exceptional forward play, and a relationship that’s frightening the entire PL.

I thought Leeds’ attacking movement was very good - particularly in the 1st half. They make very good blindside runs and it was difficult for the midfield to track their midfield runners.

Having two deep banks (mid/def) was implemented to deal with this - and it did.

#LeeLei
An unfortunate, but well worked goal for Leeds, was the only “negative” for #LCFC.

They played some good football in the middle third, but just like Man City/Arsenal, they struggled to puncture the defensive line - that’s the greatest compliment of this system.

#LeeLei
Rodgers was brilliant again tonight, I hope the fans realise how good of a manager we’ve got.

This XI was missing the entire starting back four, and DM, and we’ve outplayed/tactically outdone Bielsa’s Leeds, 1-4.

Imagine a fully-fit #LCFC, we’re a danger!
