I refuse to participate in the Oppression Olympics because I reject the notion that new or first gen immigrants from Peru or Pakistan are owed more by this country than the families of the poor white kids who fought next to my grandpa at Iwo Jima or with my dad in Vietnam.
That’s not to say there aren’t discussions to be had about how we as a country might make right centuries of wrongs for specific communities. But if compensation for what was lost has to be shared with newcomers “of color” at the expense of poor white Americans, I’ll pass.
For those wondering, the groups I’m referring to are:
Black descendants American slaves, enrolled and documented detribalized Natives, Hispanics from the Guadalupe Hidalgo Treaty cession with an emphasis on those who lost land, and descendants of Japanese detainees.
