People’s concern with getting good grades to receive a degree that has been proven worthless in our dying economy (as we face down fascism and climate change) is the saddest proof of American students’ indoctrination and lack of self worth. Classic case of Stockholm syndrome.

What would happen if we started to name our grievances with the academy as trauma? If we acknowledged how abuse and self-neglect have been normalized and at times celebrated? Why is the academy one of the few domains that’s largely gone uninterrogated for its blatant violence?

This year many of you went to protests aware that you could been shot at, killed or jailed indefinitely, and yet you went because you understood your freedom is worth more than fear. Why are you not as courageous when it comes to divesting from the brutality of the academy?
