Twitter & Facebook both say they'll label posts with premature claims of victory before a race is called.

Here's what those labels will look like on Twitter:
Twitter will also show a warning to people who try to retweet these claims:
Twitter will apply these labels to posts from candidates, US accounts with big followings, and posts that are going viral: https://twitter.com/TwitterSupport/status/1323265834014355456
Facebook, meanwhile, will put these labels on posts from presidential candidates or parties claiming premature victory:
and Facebook will also pin notices at the top of Facebook and Instagram feeds:
Facebook says it'll point people to latest results in its Voting Information Center:
Twitter will consider a race "officially" called by either an announcement from state election officials OR public projections from at least 2 of these outlets: ABC News, AP, CBS News, CNN, Decision Desk HQ, Fox News, NBC News
Facebook says it's relying on "consensus from the National Election Pool/Edison via Reuters, AP, and six independent decision desks at major media outlets to determine when a presidential winner is projected."
of course there's another big platform where there's a lot of political news and misinformation: YouTube. But it has not said publicly that it'll do anything about premature claims of victory, as @evelyndouek is fond of reminding us.

and an update on how Facebook will determine if presidential race is called, after dogged questions from @sarafischer: “In order for FB to call an election, it needs consensus from six outlets total — AP, Reuters, ABC News, Fox News, NBC News, CBS News” https://twitter.com/sarafischer/status/1323463090118234113?s=20
