Things we learned in 2020 - Every generation has to do it. We didn't get a permanent free pass in 1776, or the Civil War, or when women voted, or WWII, or when the civil rights act passed. It has to be done, over and over, because freedom equates with continual bravery. /1
Things we learned in 2020 - The internet is broken; FB and others allow it to be an amplifier for misinformation and hatred. Right now, they have an immunity that print and televised media don't. That needs to change. /2
Things we learned in 2020 - science is awesome. But not everyone can do it. I can't. That makes some people feel stupid, and they distrust it. The price of this (for COVID) is death, but it has to hit very close to home to change minds. /3
Things we learned in 2020 - as in Nazi Germany, 1/3 of the US is willing to do nothing as 1/3 kills the other 1/3. POC knew this, and have lived it, and now a lot of whites are figuring it out. See #1 - the price of freedom is continued bravery. /4
Things we learned in 2020 - the Constitution can be subverted. McConnell and Trump proved this. We need to fix it - no electoral college, no gerrymandering, money out of politics, revamped 25th Amendment for Mad Kings. This is an urgent priority. /5
Things we learned in 2020. If we thought that struggling to beat COVID was hard, I have two words - climate change. COVID will kill millions - Climate change can kill billions. It is going to be incredibly hard. /6
Things we learned in 2020 - People can legitimately change, regret their past, and seek to make amends. AA proves this. It can happen with peoples politics, too. When the change is real, forgive, welcome, and stand shoulder to shoulder. This will apply to people you know. /7
Things we learned in 2020 - Life is short. Live it with grace, forgive yourself. Love all that you can, hate only where you must. Remember that you cannot see the struggles that many fight silently.
