Robert Fisk's life work was an eagerness to pin much of the blame for the Islamic world's pathologies on the West and Israel. He was beloved by those in the West who wanted to hear such an analysis - such as the entire Irish establishment.

Typical of Fisk's lack of understanding of the enemies of the West is this comical Fisk piece about Bin Laden in 1993. "Anti-Soviet warrior puts his army on the road to peace"

During the March-April 2003 Iraq invasion, Fisk wrote a stream of pieces mocking the allied advance, and sneering at the idea that the allies could take Baghdad.
"Iraqi Army's Defenses Seem Impenetrable" wrote Fisk on 2 April 2003.
Baghdad fell 7 days later.

In 2003, Fisk sneered at the idea that Hezbollah was heavily armed with missiles pointed at Israel. He never saw them, he said. So they did not exist.
Later, in the July-August 2006 war, Hezbollah fired 4,000 missiles at Israel.
