Look at this wonderful photograph of #Southampton Pier @HistoricalSoton sent 27/2/17. Another pc held by @statelibrarywa sent by Lance Sergeant James Leslie Turner, 28th Battalion, AIF who left Australia in January 1916 & spent a month in Alexandria before sailing to France..1/4
He was wounded 29/7/16, spent several months in England recuperating (inc being at Hurdcott Camp!) James Turner returned to France via Southampton in Oct 1917 & wounded in action, suffering GSW to buttocks & abdomen 10/6/18. He sadly died of his wounds the following day... 2/4
The postcards & letters written by James Turner, held by the State Library of Western Australia are a real treasure trove, his war records (all 73 pages of them!) are also freely available @naagovau - such fantastic resources easily accessible. Frances, the mother of James.. 3/4
received a package containing his personal goods. She had also just lost her husband and had to apply to the authorities to be seen as the new Next of Kin. James Turner is buried at the Querrieu British Cemetery in France. @CWGC 4/4 END
