Just seen a petition asking for MPs to be paid 20% less. I love numbers, and it's my birthday; so I'm going to work it all for fun.
MPs earn £81,932 per year. That's £1,575.62 per week. According to the @Ons, the average wage in real terms is £507 per week. Is the average calculated including the MPs? If so, what would it be without?
A 20% cut in all 650 MPs' salaries would generate £10,651,160.

But many in the north of England have only had support of 67%. If MPs were cut by 33%, this would generate £17,574,414.
If MPs' weekly earnings were brought in line with the average earnings, this would release £36,119,356.
I haven't included expenses; this is just base salary.
What could £36m pay for?
This is an open question. I couldn't POSSIBLY cast an opinion. But look at the relatively simple maths.
Should MPs earn three times the average?
