NYC parents have just 2 weeks to decide if their children will have any classroom instruction until September at the earliest. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/02/nyregion/nyc-schools-reopening.html
I've heard over and over again from families + experts that the city spent way too little time actually thinking through how kids were going to learn this year, remotely and in person. That's why hybrid learning is so uneven across the system right now. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/02/nyregion/nyc-schools-reopening.html
Another problem: it's openly acknowledged that the rule, created by UFT + the city, that teachers can't do remote and in-person on the same day is impossible for many schools to implement. + Lots of frustration that livestreaming is discouraged. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/02/nyregion/nyc-schools-reopening.html
Safety is very obviously the most important factor in reopening schools. But it’s worth asking why some spent so much time litigating every single study on kids and transmission, and so little time talking about how to prevent kids from falling years behind academically
