RAGE THREAD: Andrea Leadsome citing mental health again. I AM SICK OF MH SUDDENLY BECOMING A MASSIVE CONCERN.
It’s disingenuous, politically motivated lip service. It’s being touted about as a wet-fish hand-wringing get-out rather than with any substance.

These people didn’t care about mental health when we were trying to get starving kids get fed the other week, nor when millions discovered they were excluded from govt financial help, nor as people wait six weeks or more for Universal Credit.
They aren’t this bothered about mental health when it means people hearing voices, or self-harming, or living with addiction, or people in crisis. They aren’t bothered about mental health when it’s ugly and scary and complex... only when it serves a useful political purpose
It’s being kicked about like a bloody football and I find it insulting.
They only say they care when it fits an agenda and a ‘presentable’ one at that.
Sort out the lack of beds for those who do need them, make it easier to access services for chronic and severe MH problems...

... do away with damaging and murderous welfare policies, maybe make sure people have enough to eat with a safe stable roof over their head. Maybe do away with needless repeat PIP assessments, actually just sort out PIP altogether (it’s bloody frightful) ...
... MAYBEEEE stop trying to crowbar folk into services that don’t fit need, that pathologise trauma and don’t actually unpick the societal and structural inequalities that make it impossible for many incredible people to thrive like they should.
It’s skincrawling seeing the likes of Leadsome earnestly wring her hands in the Commons today, citing her fears over MH as a reason to be against a lockdown. It’s empty and insulting and I don’t believe it’s genuine for a SECOND.
A lockdown is horrible for all of us. It WILL affect people’s mental health. I lie awake at night worrying about this.
Mostly because MH care has been so badly neglected and a lot of it is so poorly and ineffectively structured it’s neither use nor ornament.

I am TERRIFIED by the thought of kind and good people suffering or even dying because of this.
But I find it impossible (going by their track record) to believe that so many Tory MPs suddenly give a genuine rat’s arse about it. Seriously.

It feels VERRRRY much like they’ve jumped on a bandwagon. And I don’t like my life, and the lives of so many people I know abs have yet to meet, being used as a bandwagon.
You’ve got genuine concerns about people’s mental health in lockdown? Put your money where your mouth is. Then I might actually respect what you have to say
The uncertainty and fear created by the staggering incompetence of this government might be a good place to start.
