Are you underemployed and starting to feel like you'll be stuck in dead-end, low-wage jobs forever?

Here's some REAL tactical advice on revitalizing your career:

🧵

(Especially helpful for those feeling STUCK in the retail, nonprofit, administrative, or creative sectors.)
My career philosophy is rooted in unlocking a powerful personal brand. At the core of your personal brand is your UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION.

The great Mable “Madea” Simmons once said: “it’s not what they call you, it’s what you answer to.”

What are YOU answering to?
In other words, stop thinking about your career or your personal brand in terms of an obscure title (e.g., Sales Associate or Administrative Assistant).

Instead, anchor your personal brand in a FUNCTIONAL TITLE that clearly articulates what you do.
Top it off with a strong UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION that articulates what you do better than anyone else.

Here are some tangible and tactical examples 👇🏾
*ADMINS* Stop calling yourself an Administrative Assistant when you are actually an Operations Manager (Functional Title).
You bring operational efficiency to organizations by providing critical support that enables stakeholders throughout an organization to focus on their business goals and objectives (Unique Value Proposition).
Think about it: on any given day, you are responsible for critical business operations that everyone in your organization needs to do their jobs. That's no small task!
*SALES ASSOCIATES* You are actually a Brand Manager (Functional Title).

You evangelize critical institutional knowledge about a brand and its products in-store to connect directly with the brand’s target market on the frontlines (Unique Value Proposition).
Think about it: on any given day, you are responsible for building brand awareness, planning in-store programming, localizing national marketing campaigns, and closing sales.

You *probably* know more about marketing than the people in corporate tbh.
*JOURNALISTS* Stop calling yourself a journalist in 2020, please. You are actually a Copywriter or Communications Manager (Functional Title).
You develop and execute communications strategies, leveraging primary and second research to determine succinct key messages for organizations (Unique Value Proposition).
Think about it: A typical journalist is responsible for researching topics and writing stories and articles that align with their parent publication’s target demographic.
*PRODUCERS* Stop calling yourself a producer. I see *a lot* of people fall into this trap.

You are actually a Creative Project Manager or Content Manager (Functional Title).

Literally, you manage complex production projects and content (Unique Value Proposition).
*NONPROFIT* If you’re feeling stuck in the nonprofit sector, focus on selling yourself as a Program or Partnerships Manager (Functional Title).

Most people in nonprofits are responsible for working with key stakeholders to execute contractual partnerships and programs.
Notice something: I don’t mention any companies.

This is YOUR personal brand, and the purpose is to understand how you can service ANY company or organization. In order to pivot, it will be critical to understand and articulate WHAT YOU OFFER and WHAT VALUE YOU BRING.
It's not easy, but my Personal Branding Blueprint ($5.00) will help you establish the foundation of an irresistible personal brand.
