Where is the campaign to reinstate Corbyn? I’m angry at the lack of solidarity, or hedged and equivocal support, from some. But there's a lack of seriousness even from some of his strong supporters on the Labour left whose primary goal seems to be stopping people leaving Labour.
This is an attempt to break the left, to rehabilitate Labour as an establishment party, which Starmer is making very obvious at the CBI today, to silence the voices of Palestinians and their supporters, while cynically and recklessly exploiting fears of Jewish people in doing so.
If it is not resisted actively, involving as many supporters as possible, it will be effective. Rallies over the last few days have been mixed. Too many on the Labour left are *demobilsing* – stay calm, don’t do anything that will get you kicked out of Labour. Sign a petition!
So @TariqAli_News was right to say last night that people should make it clear to Labour that they agree with Jeremy. If a member, well, 'suspend me too, then'. This needs to be *organised*. A coordinated “I’m Spartacus” moment would be a sign that people are prepared to fight.
What do the reticent voices in the SCG, etc, think quiescence gains? Even if it leads to a backroom deal and Jeremy is readmitted, apologises for speaking the truth, the damage to the left will be huge. His reinstatement must be central to the entire left's efforts right now.
It's not enough to say stay and fight, or to merely echo the TUC's minimal demands around the lockdown. Too much timidity right across the piece at a time when a defiant and radical left could make headway, not in Tory parliament but across a society furious at the ruling class.
