The first general election where women were allowed to vote was 100 years ago today. A record 93% of the 76k women registered to vote in Marion County went to the polls.
First-time voter Nina Reed was rear-ended at 30th & Ruckle on her way to vote. Her car flipped on its side and she was taken home by ambulance. She rested several hours before returning to the polls, & although badly bruised, told @indystar that she felt much better after voting
@Indystar reported that Anna Monroe was the 1st woman to vote in Indiana at 6 a.m., but this was disputed by other women who also voted at 6 a.m. Precinct workers throughout Indy said that "housewives were out in force long before the mere male voters". https://www.indypolitan.com/post/november-1920-indy-prepares-for-a-flood-of-first-time-female-voters
