Story time. So nearly a year ago I went on the Rise of the Resistance ride for the first time at Disney World

I was reminded of it today when I grabbed this mug to use

One of the... unique things about this ride is that the storyline is you’re captured by the Empire 1/?
The people riding become prisoners of the Empire and the officers do bark at you to stay in line, not lean on walls, and other things

The first time I went on was with my family and I was busier watching their reactions and taking the experience in 2/?
The second time however I was in a group with random people. Mostly white, mostly upper class. It was fascinating watching their reactions because they were extremely uncomfortable and couldn’t really explain why. After all, it’s just a ride, right? 3/?
Some blustered and tried to talk back (mostly men), some tried to act like nothing was wrong, some were quiet and cowered. I would genuinely love to observe this for days just watching how people responded. In their defense, it really was intimidating 4/?
Two people in line basically latched onto me as their human shield, which was amusing at the very least. I mean, I was dressed the part that day. But they literally stayed with me the rest of the experience 5/?
Anyway. It was a fascinating observation of what happens when you feel like your rights are being eroded. And I only wish I could explain to the people on that ride how it feels now with the current election 6/?
Because sometimes the bad guys don’t wear obvious masks. But it doesn’t make their behavior any less evil

Anyway, join the resistance and for the love of someone if you’re in the US and able please fucking vote 7/7
