However you vote this year, please vote. In my life as a voter, I've always relished dropping my ballot into a ballot box.
I'll share a few favorite ballot boxes from Smithsonian collections. This D.C. Board of Elections ballot box is now in our @amhistorymuseum. #VoteHistory

Ballot boxes are such simple objects and yet they can tell us a lot about our democracy. This one from around 1890 is in our @amhistorymuseum's collection. In the late 1800s, glass ballot boxes became symbols of transparency and democratic self-government. #VoteHistory
This one included a roller to ensure that ballots could not be seen or tampered with once they were rolled into the box. The late 19th century ballot box was probably used in New England. #VoteHistory
Your vote, your choice. This 1898 machine's gear mechanism and curtain were designed to ensure accuracy, security, and privacy. #VoteHistory
Featuring a ballot box, this 1977 stamp from our @PostalMuseum's collection was one of four that highlighted the "roots" of democracy, including the ability to write, read, speak out, and cast a free ballot. #VoteHistory
