I defend Wentz mostly out of proportionality. Obviously he's gotta cut the crap, i.e. the two inexcusable hero ball plays per game. But that stuff is easy to fix, esp given he went 50+ games w/o doing it (turnovers). Real problem is the structural breakdown of Doug P's offense
Case in point: Eagles first drive. First down. D. Lawrence beats Mailata inside, is in Wentz's face before any receiver has turned to face him. Sack. Minus nine yards. Brings up 2nd-and-19. Eagles keep eight (8!) in to block. Dallas rushes 4. Leaves 2 receivers vs. 7 defenders
Everyone focuses on Wentz's complete/total mental breakdown. Collinsworth was yelling to throw it away two seconds before a defender got there. Brutal sack even w/o the fumble. But isn't the real problem a play that was DOA? On 2nd-and-19? Take away the QB and its still 3+19
It's easy to say that Wentz needs to take what the defense gives him. But go back and watch that sequence. There was nothing. There. Was. No. One. To. Throw. To. Nobody. Two plays, DOA. He needs to stop making things worse. But focus should be on things being bad to begin with
