We just watched Daryen Ru's Denim - such a great film! It managed to bring us to intimately into the mind of the main character, a teen trans girl, in such a short time. Touched on tragedy with joy, lightness, and humour, truly an amazing watch (1/3) @raindance #queercinema #lgbt
There's too many trans stories told by cis people that focus so much on tragedy, unhappy endings, and the body in a too often fetishizing way. What we need are more films like Denim, that develop characters further and show a queer community rather than an isolated trans youth
The central incident (no spoilers) is of terrible magnitude, but instead the overwhelming feeling from the film is a sense of hope. Daryen Ru chose to focus on the community their character found through this hardship, the newfound joy and friendships, rather than pain. (3/3)
